Social Entrepreneurs awarded for providing social services in the City (12/09/2018)

Lord Mayor Nial Ring, presented the Dublin City Social Enterprise Awards to five deserving winners at the Wood Quay venue, this morning, Wednesday, 12th September, 2018.

The Social Enterprise Awards was first established in 2015 to raise awareness of and reward the important work being done by Social Entrepreneurs in the city. At this year’s awards, a total fund of €45,000 was distributed to five innovative social enterprises to further develop their operations and organisations which deal with issues such as access to employment, equality, social inclusion, training and education, sustainability, waste reduction and long term employment opportunities.

The Lord Mayor praised the important contribution of the winners stating that “It is important that we highlight this growing sector and the contribution social enterprises make to community and economic development. The social enterprises we are celebrating today work with communities and individuals across Dublin City, providing vital opportunities for employment, inclusion, integration and change.”

Evanne Kilmurray CEO of Inner City Enterprise (ICE), the organisation partnered with Dublin City Council to manage the awards – explained: “These awards were created to promote social enterprise and provide early stage funding to them. It is brilliant to have another group of innovative, dynamic and very worthy winners this year. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Dublin City Council to manage the awards and look forward to further supporting social enterprise development with the council”.

Further information about the Dublin City Social Enterprise Awards:

The Awards was first established in 2015 through a collaboration between Dublin City Council, Inner City Enterprise (ICE) and the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Dublin City. DCC and ICE recognised that there was a need for social enterprises to access grants to kick-start the creation and development of their operations in the city.

Now in its Fourth year, the scheme has expanded and at this year’s Awards, five social enterprises and organisations, who were selected as winners by an evaluation committee, will be showcased. The programme and competition aims to increase awareness of the important contribution that social enterprise makes to building communities, creating employment and developing the skills of the participants who get involved.

The funding awarded to the winning social enterprises will allow them to further develop their plans and activities and bring the benefits of their social enterprises to more individuals and communities.
