Rural Social Scheme: work placements
The Rural Social Scheme provides income support for under-employed farmers and those engaged in fishing. Participants work for 19½ hours per week to benefit to rural communities. The scheme currently provides work opportunities for around 2,600 participants and 130 supervisory staff. Some social enteprises in rural areas have been able to host RSS workers. Eligible work and host organisations are explained in this document: https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Rural-Social-Scheme-Guidelines.aspx
As places on the scheme are limited, it can be difficult for new community organisations to secure a RSS placement. Enquiries should be made to the local development company in your area – the scheme operates in all counties except Dublin counties.
