About GIY
GIY is a social enterprise founded in Waterford in 2009. Our mission is to help create a healthier, happier, and more sustainable world by inspiring and supporting people to grow food at home, school, work, and in the community. In 2019, GIY supported over 500,000 people to grow their own food across the UK and Ireland; and generated approximately €2m in turnover to fund that work. GIY employs 25 people based at GROW HQ in Waterford which is the home of the GIY movement and includes a 65 seat café, shop, growing school, cookery school, and food garden. www.giy.ie

At an exciting stage in our development, we are looking for a Finance Manager to join our team, reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with both the CEO and the Finance Director of our Board. The position will give the successful candidate exposure to the financial, commercial, and strategic management of an award-winning social enterprise with a clear path of career progression.

Role Objectives

Be the financial manager and planner for GIY, providing excellent financial information, analysis, and advice to the CEO and the organisation’s leadership in pursuit of our mission and strategic goals.
Help GIY to implement best-in-class financial structures, systems, processes and reporting facilitates to satisfy our diverse range of stakeholders, and ensure excellence in governance and compliance.
Be part of the Management Team, working closely with them and our Leadership Team to design, review, and improve financial processes to meet the needs of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Implementing the financial objectives in our Strategic Plan 2020-2022.
Preparation and consolidation of month-end management accounts.
Work closely with the CEO on cash flow planning and budgeting.
Responsible for all financial reporting activities, including income/expenditure and
balance sheet reports, KPI reporting and the development and monitoring of
organisational budgets.
Communicate with the board, CEO and management teams on financial matters,
ensuring responsibilities are being fully complied with and they are being provided with
information necessary to fulfil their responsibilities and statutory obligations.
Coordinate the Finance Subcommittee of the Board of Directors.

Identify financial risks and institute policies and procedures to deal with identified risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Be responsible for financial relationships with key stakeholders and funders.

Key Role Tasks

Maintenance of Fixed Assets, Creditor (Accounts Payable) and Debtor (Accounts Receivable), control accounts, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintenance of cloud accounts system (Sage).
Maintenance of General Ledger for business and financial reporting needs.
PAYE/VAT/CT control account reconciliations.
Provision of monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet per the Trial Balance.
Prepare and oversee lodgement and cash handling.
Accounts processing to the trial balance (journals).
Accounting system and trial balance management.
Monthly Management Accounts.
Preparation and submission to auditors of Annual Financial Statements.
Filings and Returns (CRO, PAYE/Income Tax, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax/Capital
Acquisition Tax, VAT)
Tax Payments & Tax Control Accounts.

Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for an exceptional, dynamic, experienced, and qualified individual who shares GIY’s culture, vision, and values. The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and experience:

Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or relevant Finance third level degree
2-3 year minimum experience
Excellent attention to detail, organisational and communications skills
Advanced Excel skills are essential as well as overall MS office and computer literacy
A positive, energetic, resourceful, self-motivated person who has the maturity,
confidence to succeed in a busy environment and as part of a dynamic team.
Team player who values integrity and respect.
Ability to deal with a range of simultaneous projects, and meet tight deadlines.
