Blue Economy Digital Opportunities for Social Economy Transition
This project aims to build the capacities of Social Economy SMEs acting in the Blue Economy to apply digital social innovation and principles, fostering a smoother and faster transition of the blue economy toward smart, sustainable, and inclusive models.
The primary goal is to help social economy SMEs to strengthen their digital capabilities and digital transition. The secondary objective is to drive digital social innovation among “enabling organisations”. From a raising awareness perspective, the project aims to promote the digitalisation of SME social economy in the blue sector, fostering sustainable competitiveness and creating new opportunities for the sector and the twin transition of blue communities.
The social economy plays a vital role in advancing the Blue Economy by prioritizing sustainable growth, community well-being, and equitable resource management. Social economy enterprises within the Blue Economy—such as cooperatives, non-profits, and community organizations—focus on responsible use of marine resources, inclusivity in economic opportunities, and environmental stewardship. These organizations are essential in driving social innovation, from creating green jobs in coastal areas to promoting sustainable fishing and renewable energy projects. The Bluedots Project supports these efforts by equipping social economy SMEs with digital tools, training, and resources that allow them to compete effectively and operate sustainably.
Through its Living Labs, Bluedots fosters collaboration and co-creation, enabling SMEs to implement innovative, scalable solutions that contribute to a resilient and inclusive Blue Economy. By empowering these organizations, Bluedots aims to strengthen the social economy’s impact on environmental sustainability and community development across Europe’s coastal and inland regions.
