Minister for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy TD, has announced the launch of a public consultation to seek the views of interested parties on certain aspects being considered for inclusion in the forthcoming Co-operative Societies legislation.

The proposed legislation is intended to provide a modern and effective legislative framework suitable for the diverse range of organisations using the co-operative model in Ireland. It is important to note that this legislation is not expressly for social enterprises, but in providing a modern legislative basis for a co-operative corporate model, may provide an attractive alternative to the company structure for a whole range entities including social enterprises.
